Poems, Short Stories, and One-shots Empty Poems, Short Stories, and One-shots

Wow, these one-shots have gotten really popular, haven't they?
So(As if I didn't have enough writing to do) I have decided to make my own One-shot topic. I'm not sure what I'll put in here, maybe just some ideas for stories, poems, or short stories when I'm feeling like writing something dramatic. So, to start this off I'll start with a poem. :3

She sits in the corner, weeping.
She cries because of your words, cries because she believes you.
You effect her more than you think.
Your words do more damage than you know.
If you were to take a plate and throw it on the ground,
What would it do?
It would break.
If you took a piece of paper and crumpled it up, would it be as new as it had been before?
Of course not.
And even if you glued that plate together, even if you smoothed out the paper,
It wouldn't be the same as before.
If you took her and threw her on the ground,
If you used your word to crumple up her soul,
Would she ever be the same?
No.
The scars would be still there, no matter how many kind words you gave her afterwards.
Do you want to be the one to create those scars?
The scars she has not only mentally, but physically too?
No?
Then don't throw her on the ground.
Don't crush her soul with your words.
Instead, lift her soul with words of kindness,
Pick her up when others throw her down.
Never stand idle when you know someone is being hurt.
Because who knows? Maybe one day, it would be you.
Wouldn't you want someone to help you too?

Apples
By Joseyposey

Apples are judged by their type
And by their skin.
They’re judged by how big they are,
But never by what is within.

Why do we throw an apple away
Just because it’s bruised?
Why should it’s size matter
When we choose?

Apples are like people,
We judge them by the outside.
We never pick a bruised apple.
We never judge a person by what’s inside.

Why should a small bruise matter,
Or a small flaw of the skin?
Why do we never judge an apple
By what is within?

When you finish reading this,
And the poem comes to an end,
Please remember to judge people not by the outside,
But by what is within.

Just a poem I wrote for the school newspaper....

The Room

A girl sat alone in a room. The room was empty except for her. The wood floors were polished perfectly. The blank white walls didn't have a single mark. Apart from the girl, there was nothing in the room.
The girl sat on the floor. her arms wrapped around her knees. Her strawberry-blonde hair fell in gentle waves around her face. Her eyes were like the sea; unable to decide blue or green, and becoming a strange color in between. Her creamy skin was dotted with freckles on her face and arms. A pair of rose-colored glasses sat on her nose.
The girl sat silently, eyes vacant. She seemed to be looking down at the floor, and at the same time, she wasn't. She had retreated into her own mind.
A woman appeared the room, although there was no door. She walked up to the girl, her footsteps like thunder in the otherwise quiet room. She stood in front of the girl, staring the girl down. The girl didn't seem to notice the woman.
"I am your teacher," The woman said.
The girl said nothing.
"What's your name?" She asked.
Her question was met with silence.
She went on with other questions. "What is three times seventeen? When did Columbus discover the Americas? Who was Leonardo da Vinci? What is the formula for a triangle? What is the definition of velocity?"
Finally, she asked, "Where is this room?"
It was then that the girl looked up.
"If you don't know, then you shouldn't be here," she said.
Then the woman was gone, as if  she had never existed.

The girl sat alone in the empty room. A man appeared in the same manner the woman had. He walked up to the girl, and stood in front of her.
"I am a doctor," he said.
The girl did not respond.
"What is your name?" He asked.
Silence.
He went on. "Have you been sleeping well? Have you been eating lately? Have you been feeling intense emotions in the past few weeks? Any problems at school? Have your grades dropped in the last quarter?"
Finally, he asked, "Where is this room?"
The girl looked up.
"If you don't know, then you shouldn't be here," she said.
And then the man was gone.

The girl sat alone in the silent room.
Another girl appeared. She, unlike the others before her, sat down in front of the first girl.
"Hi," The second girl said. "My name's Kaylee."
The girl remained silent. However, unlike before, her eyes started coming into focus.
"You always seem to be alone, so I thought you would be lonely."
The other girl said nothing, but she listened to what the second girl said.
"I think I can understand what you're going through. I went through the same thing, once. It was terrible. No one seemed to be ale to understand what I was going through. I felt like I was the only person in the world."
The girl's lip quivered.
Finally, the second girl said, "This room is where all of your friends are supposed to be, isn't it?"
And then the girl looked up, tears streaming down her face. "Yes," she whispered. "Yes, it is."
The girl collapsed into the second's arms, sobbing. The second girl hugged the girl back, saying soothing words, until the girl had run out of tears.
"Let's be friends, okay?" The second girl said, smiling.
The girl wiped her eyes. And then, for the first time in a very, very long time, she smiled.
"Okay."

Author's Note escribió:Lately, it seems that I've been hearing more and more about depression. Or maybe it's just that I've only been noticing it lately. But ether way, I thought I'd write a short story about it. I myself have never been in depression, so this may not be completely accurate, but some of my friends have been/are in depression, so I wrote this based on what they've told me.
Hope you like it! Smile

Just a Scratch

Today was an ordinary day in Tharsis. The sun was shining, explorers were practically invading the shops, and the Snowfall guild had just come back from another trip into the labyrinth.
"I never. Ever. Want to meet a FOE ever again," William said, his voice shaky from horror.
"Me neither," Lucy agreed, shuddering. "They are terrifying."
"Stupid, orange, furry balls of death," Logan muttered angrily to himself.
"Well, at least we're alive," Tori said. Her voice sounded tired and fatigued.
"Yup! Free to live another day!" Jake said, positive and cheerful as usual.
"Oh, Jake!" Lolita said, her voice alarmed. "Your arm..."
Jake glanced at his arm. A long, red line ran down from his elbow to his wrist.
"It's just a scratch. I'll be fine," Jake said, shrugging.
"B-but what if it gets infected? You should go to the clinic..." Lolita said worriedly.
"Lolita, you're worrying too much." William said. "It's just a-"
"No, I should go," Jake interrupted. He looked almost exited. "Yes, I'll go visit the clinic and get patched up! You guys go ahead, I'll meet you at the inn when I'm done!" He started to walk away.
"Wait! Do you even know the way?" Lucy asked. Jake tended to be forgetful at times.
"Oh, sure." Jake waved it off. "Besides, if worse comes to worse, I can just rely on my nose to get me there," he said, tapping his nose.
"Well, see ya!" Jake waved at them, then ran off.
The Snowfall guild was in silence for a moment.
"Should we have let him run off like that?" Lucy said. She seemed slightly worried.
"I'm sure he'll be fine," William said. "I'm wondering why he seemed so exited about it."
"I don't understand anything that goes on in his head. Let's just get back to the inn," Logan said grumpily.
The other guild members hesitated, then followed.

Jake happily ran through the streets of Tharsis. He weaved his way through crowds and jogged down alleys, trying to find the fastest route possible. He lost his way too many times to count, but eventually he stumbled onto the right street. He happily ran down the street, until-
Jake stopped.
The clinic was only a few feet ahead- and very, very crowded. Jake's ears turned down like a sad kitten. He hung his head sadly.
"There's no way she would have time for me..." He said sadly to himself. Then he turned around, and sadly trudged away from the clinic.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
It was late when Jake got back to the inn. Lucy was sitting at one of the tables alone. No one else was around.
She looked up when he walked in. "Jake! Everyone's been worried sick. What happened?"
Jake only shook his head sadly. "I just got lost a few times. I'm sorry you guys were worried."
Lucy could tell something was wrong. Jake was always so positive, but now he was mopey and upset. She took his hand. "What's wrong? You're not acting anything like your usual self."
Jake shook his head. "It's nothing." He smiled, but Lucy could see that there was still a twinge of sadness behind it. "I'm fine now." He yawned. "We should go to bed so that we have plenty of rest in the morning!" He turned and dashed up the stairs to their rooms.
Lucy stayed where she was. She watched the stairs worriedly. "What happened to you?" she asked, her voice quiet in the still room. There was no answer.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next day the guild woke up to find Jake gone.
"He still isn't back yet?!" Lolita almost shouted. She was starting to become very, very worried.
"No, he did," William said before Lucy got to. "Look."
He pointed to a piece of paper that lay on the table. It read:

"Hey! I needed to go take care of something. I'll be back here by noon!
-Jake"

"But weren't we planning to leave for the labyrinth again at ten o' clock?" said Lolita.
"Baka..." Logan muttered to himself.
"It doesn't look like we have much choice now," Tori said. "Might as well get supplies while we wait."
Logan kept on complaining, but the others agreed and separated, each going to different shops to gather supplies.

Jake had left early that morning. He didn't want any crowds to get in the way this time. He still felt nervous though, which was new to him. You see, ever since he was born, Jake always had been so cheerful and so optimistic(not to mention thick-headed) that he rarely felt anything other than happiness. He certainly had never felt nervous before, and it bothered him.
Soon he had arrived at the clinic. It was still early, so the only people around were those on the night shift. Jake found a dark alley were he wouldn't be seen but could still see the clinic, and settled down to wait.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Carrie left her apartment at 7:45. It usually took about 15 minutes for her to walk to the clinic. She had her bag of medical equipment with her, of course. But she carried something else with her today, and she had been carrying it for the past few weeks. The heavy weight of abandonment settled down on her back and slumped her shoulders. She knew that her guild hadn't abandoned her, not really, but it still felt like it. They had returned to the future, where they belonged and she didn't, and she had been left behind.
Carrie shouldered her bag, trying not to think too much about it. It only made her feel more lonely than ever.
But then Carrie remembered the words of one of the patients she had treated a week ago. Jake, his name was. Carrie smiled slightly when she thought of him. He had been so sweet, which was a bit uncommon in the patients she usually treated. And he seemed to actually see her as a person, which was another uncommon trait. She recalled what he had said to her when she told him about her guild going back to the future.
"If they are real friends, then they'll come back one day."
She certainly hoped so.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Jake's eyes began to droop. She still hadn't arrived yet, and Jake hadn't gotten much sleep. He felt his head slowly falling down towards the ground.
Just before his head touched the ground, an orange-haired girl poked her head out from behind the wall that lead into the alley. "Jake?"
Jake's eyes flew open at the familiar voice. His ears perked up, and a look of complete joy spread over his face. "Carrie-chan!" He tackled her in a hug. "I was wondering when you would get here!"
"H-Huh?!" Carrie stuttered, clearly surprised. "I don't remember arranging a meeting here. And could you please let go of me?"
"Huh? Oh, sorry!" Jake let go. "We didn't. I wanted to see you again, so I figured I would wait here until you got to the clinic."
"You were waiting for me?" Carrie seemed even more surprised. "But why? Did your wound reopen?"
Jake shook his head. "I told you already, silly. I wanted to see you again!"
"But why?" Carrie started to feel frustrated. "Why did you want to see me again?!"
"Isn't it obvious?" Jake said, rather plainly. "Because I like you."
There was a moment of silence.
Carrie blushed furiously. "Wh-why... Y-you... I- I mean...." She spluttered.
Jake laughed. "You're cute when you do that."
Carrie turned even redder.
"Well," Jake said, stretching out his arms. "I'd better get going. I told the guild I'd be back by noon, and I have some things I've got to do." He turned to leave.
"Wait!" Carrie grabbed his arm.
Jake turned his head towards her. "What is it?" He asked.
Carrie was about as red as a tomato by now. She was about to say "nothing", but then something caught her eye.
"Your arm..." she said, gently tracing the long streak of red on his arm.
"Oh, that?" Jake glanced down at the scratch, then back up at Carrie. "Don't worry. It's just a scratch." he smiled at her. "Thanks for worrying, though."
Carrie let go of his arm and looked away. "It's nothing," she said.
"Well, I have to be going now." He looked over at Carrie. "We'll see each other again, right?"
"Huh?"
"I'll still be going all over the place with my guild, but we don't exactly have a medic, so we'll need to come back to the clinic often. So I'll be seeing you around, right?"
Carrie looked down at the ground. "Well, yes, I suppose so."
Jake grinned. "Great! See ya then!" He turned and left.
"Yea..." Carrie said to herself. "See ya."
