Okay! Everyone! I beg of your assitance! This is a story I plan to PUBLISH, so ANY comments on how to improve it would do me SOOOO WELL!

SEEING I ~ [PG-13] Long awaited update! (Woo!) Large
Introduction~

Studies show that us human beings only use 10% of our brains. Even with only 10%, we have made it to the moon and back, created advanced weaponry, and have had better understanding of the world around us than any other documented creature. But one has to wonder.....

what could we do if we had access to all 100% of our brain?

This wonder fueled a project that utterly failed an attempt to do that, but still allowing use of 50% of our brains.

MINDBLIP

In 2001, the project was shut down, and all the test subjects were killed. Except for 8.

Now, it's up to those 8, to conquer there minds, and survive.

Prologue

   My eyes slowly opened to be greeted by four white walls, with a ceiling to match, surrounding me. The only color I saw was the light beige of the door leading out. There was a wooden sign on the door, and there was text chiseled into it without much care. The text read “Patient 27- Overactive Imagination” Wondering what lay in the area beyond, I persistently fiddled with the door until it creaked open at last.

I slowly stepped into the hallway, my footsteps echoing through the blank hall. The walls and ceiling had the same amount of color as the room where I awoke. Beige doors lightly dotted the hall, each with its own cruelly made wooden sign. It was dark, but I could see light stains of, blood? In the corner of this macabre hall was a man, no, a boy no more my age, curled up, murmuring dark things. The face was unrecognizable from where I stood, so I slowly approached him. Once he noticed my presence, he looked up in shock. He screamed bloody murder “She is after me! Let the mayhem stop!” Before dashing down the hall, perhaps for his life. I had to ponder Who is he talking about? Could it be me? before continuing down the hall. I could now see that each of the beige doors now had windows, though the looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in forever. I peeked through each, trying to make out what each room contained, and the sight horrified me.

What lied in each were the bodies of my friends, each of them meeting death in a horrific manner. They were soaked in pools of there own blood, and stab marks prominent in their chests. After looking through three of the windows, I could not bear the sight any longer. I did not dare look through another. I had to find a way out, any way out, so I darted down the hall in search for an exit.

At the end of the hall, was a door I had not seen before. It was the same beige as the other doors, and the same type of sign. The text was all too similar “Patient 27- Overactive Imagination” I could hear breathing through the thin door, so I dared to look through.In that room, I saw what could have killed me right then and there.

What I saw…….was me.

I saw myself, rocking in the corner, tears rolling down my face. Beside me, was a knife. A bloody, bloody knife. It all clicked. I was the she the boy had spoken of. I was the one that had killed my friends. I hadn’t though. I was here. Was I dreaming, or seeing the future, or had I already passed on, watching my life unfold?

It didn’t matter. I collapsed to the ground, the only words that were leaving me were “No………...nononononononono….”  I burst into tears. I didn’t even think about it, they just came, streaming down my face like twin waterfalls.

How could I have killed my friends! This could haven’t possibly happened! I would have let myself to die until a voice echoed in my head. “Don’t like this too much, do you?” The voice was feminine and soft, like a nurturing, guiding voice. “No! Of course not!” I exclaimed, my voice still shaken from the tears. “You can change your path, you know.” The voice told me. “How!” I almost barked in question. “You must be obedient in your waking life. Always do what you're told” The voice told me. “Yes, ma’am! I will ma’am! I swear, I swear I will!” I said, sounding like a slave about to be set free. “Good….” The voice whispered, and my eyes snapped open, ending the dream.

My name, is Lorrell Quimby.  What you just read, was the beginning of the end for me. It was the first of the soon to be many visions. I’ve been having these horrible nightmares ever since I joined the school newspaper, writing horoscope under the alias Seeing I. I’m not sure if that’s related to anything, but ever since that day, I have seen the deaths of myself and my friends, and a less than straightforward answer on how to prevent it. Now, let me start the tale at the very beginning, the day after the first vision……

Chapter 1

What you see is what you prevent

“Wow! I can’t believe you're in the school newspaper, Lori!” My best friend, Meeka, congratulated me as we went on our way to homeroom the next morning. Not like I was paying any attention, though. My mind was lost venturing in the world I had walked the night prior. The voice’s last words echoed through my mind as if it were a hollow cavern “Be obedient in your waking life, always do what you’re told…..” I tried decipher what obedience had to do with my sanity, until I walked right into the wall. I was never the most graceful.

During the dreaded class known as math, I was paying absolutely no attention to my teacher, who was trying to make the concept of integers interesting. Note that I said trying, not succeeding. Word choice is important. Instead,I was still trying to figure out this seemingly straightforward puzzle. I know what you're thinking- The voice told you to do what you're told, just do it! But alas, I am a person that needs to know why. Why is the earth round?  Why does chicken taste good? WHY DO I NEED TO DO WHAT I’M TOLD!? If you're thinking - “Because the voice told you too” I want you to stop thinking and continue reading.

After pondering this for about 20 minutes, integers, fractions, prophecies, and riddles started dancing in my head and I feel asleep, face on the desk, pen in my hand.

What I met when I awoke was the blue sky. I sat up, and I found out that I was in the local zoo. Why was I at the zoo? Looking around, I saw that I was right in front of the Puma exhibit. Well, I wasn’t, Meeka was. I was slightly behind my friend. She was peering over the fence, staring at the creature in awe. “Oooh! How pretty! The fur, the mane, like a feline wolf!” She cooed, gazing at the mountain lion. What she had with ferocious animals I had no clue. Little did she know, that the gate to the exhibit was unlocked.

One of the Pumas strided out of the gate, eyes almost piercing into Meeka. “MEEKA! GET AWAY!” I called out, but she didn’t hear me in time. Next time I blinked, the Puma tackled Meeka, and she lay there, dead as a doornail.

I had to silence my screams as I forced myself awake, almost getting whiplash from how fast I whirred my head up. No one had notice, of if they did, they didn’t comment on it. I looked down at my paper where I was supposed to be taking notes, but instead read this.

When the zoo’s safety breaks loose, it flees onto the mountain

I looked at it puzzled, and scratched my head in confusion. What did the mountains have to do with my best friend getting mauled by a panther? I was about to ponder that very thing until my math teacher called me to the board to do an equation. Oh integers, how I hate you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following class period, over the monotonous tones, constant dreary “ayes”, and odd Canadian accent of our Civics teacher, I was pretending to be fascinated by the Preamble of the Constitution when really I was doing a crossword puzzle. What? I like crosswords. Calms my mind.
Back to the point, I was doing a crossword when I received airmail in the back of the head. In a pretty, loopy cursive, it read-
Hey there Seeing Eye! Did you get the horoscope for today’s newspaper meeting?I hope you did!
~Heidi
I crumpled up the paper and slugged into the trashcan the moment I read the name.  Heidi, or as I like to call her, Hades is the CEO and lead reporter of the school newspaper, The Riverfall Middle School Gazette. She always acts real perky and nice, but in reality, she’s evil and cold-hearted. Or I’m just crazy. Especially at a time like this, I’m not sure anymore. I still hate her guts though. But as they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.  For her information, I had all the horoscopes done last night, thank you very much, I scribbled back, in not-so-pretty print.
Yes, I have them all done and ready. Stop annoying me about it.
By the way, it’s Lorrell, please learn my name.
Once I finished, I threw the note at her as if I was a pitcher in the MLB, hitting Heidi straight in the back of the head. Headshot.
Without Heidi and my tail, I was free to think in, well, half-peace. The uproar of my Civics class was enough to shatter the eardrums of a dog. For a Civics class, they act like a bunch of barbarians. I’ve learned to cope though, and that’s what I did. I begun to think. What could Meeka do instead of going to the zoo? I thought about the hint once more “Once the zoo’s safety breaks loose, it flees onto the mountain” That was it! I knew what I had to do!
“MMMMEEEEEKKKKKAAAAAAA!!!!!” I shouted as I sprinted down the hall. It almost felt like I was Usain Bolt in the 100 meter dash. I was about to screech to a halt when instead I slid straight into my other friend, Hype. Darn you cheap shoes. “Hey, watch where you're going, Gracie.” She said, rolling her eyes. She calls me Gracie whenever I screw up because I’m a klutz. I looked over to Meeka, who stopped eating her cheeseburger mid-chew. She swallowed before looking back at me. “What?” She asked. “Where are you going this weekend?” I asked a bit demanding. “Uhhhh, I think the zo-” She couldn’t even finish her sentence before I shouted “NOOOOO!!” as if I was at the end of some horror movie. Meeka furrowed her brow before I saved myself by saying “I mean, HOOOOOWWW about you go on a mountain hike with me instead? Doesn’t that sound even MORE fun?” and smiling like an idiot. “Uh, Lori? You okay? Last time I checked you were terrified of heights.” Meeka said, still keeping her confused gaze fixated on me. “Psssh, I am NOT, silly.” I said, fake giggling a little. “Then why couldn’t you cope looking down in one of those see-through elevators at the mall?” Meeka asked. Instead of giving a proper answer, I exclaimed. “I AM A CHANGED WOMAN! Now, are you going on this trip or NOT.” “Okay...I’ll go if you’ll go, Lori.” Meeka said, and before she could add anything else, the lunch bell rang. I threw my lunch away and headed to Free Period. Once I took my seat in the newsroom, I slammed my face onto the desk. Meeka was right, I’m TERRIFIED OF HEIGHTS!
Chapter 2
Becoming Seeing Eye
As the 4-minute time between classes ticked away slowly, my brain was eating itself away in fear. The things I end up doing for my friends is absolutely ridiculous. I was about to smack myself when Heidi darted in the room and tackled-hugged me, sending the chair I was sitting in flying and me crashing to the ground. “L'oreal!” Heidi shouted at me, saying my name like the beauty company. “Hiya Heidi…” I mumbled from beneath her. We stood up, then Heidi started shaking me, making my brain bounce in a hundred different directions. “Where are the horoscopes! I want to see them now!” She demanded, dragging out ‘now’ longer than she should have. I handed her the paper containing the horoscopes in which I ‘made’, and when I said made I mean took off the internet. Google is the lazy girl’s savior. By the end of the entire episode, everyone had arrived, she went to do something with them, while I, with nothing to do, sat in one of those fun office chairs and rolled over to my friend, Lyon.
“Whatcha doing?!” I shouted into Lyon’s ear. He almost tipped his chair over the way he jumped in surprise. I had to chuckle, as he does that every time I catch him off guard. It’s hilarious, really. “What was that for!?” He barked, adjusting his glasses, a cute little frown formed on his face. “Your face is positively priceless!” I said, bopping him on the nose, I then shifted my gaze to his computer’s screen. “So, what are you doing?” I asked again. Lyon’s face returned to normal “I’m working on a new layout for for the Gazette. You wanna see?” He said gesturing to the computer. I nodded, and with that, he started going on a huge explanation of how his software worked and how he was doing what he was doing, and I just sat there, pretending like I knew what he was saying. I am a total idiot when it comes to computers, so it sounded like he was speaking a foreign language. It didn’t matter, I liked hearing him talk. As Lyon wrapped up his lecture, Heidi handed him my horoscopes. He looked over them, and he glared at me. “You got these off the internet, didn’t you?” He told me, voice stern. I laughed in guilt. My laziness will be the end of me, you don’t have to be psychic to figure that out (Pun totally intended). Lyon glared at me. “I’ll let you slide this time, Lori.” He said, returning to his work as I slumped in my seat. I peered over him doing his layout on Microsoft Excel, or was it Publisher? Maybe it wasn’t even a Microsoft Office product. The only programs I know on my computer is Pinball and Microsoft Word. Again, no computer smarts whatsoever. I was about to go see what the others were doing when Heidi clapped her hands and chanted “Alright guys! Core’s over! Save up, pack up!” I slung my 300-pound backpack over my shoulder and lazily walked to Latin class the moment the bell rang.
“Salve, Stella!” My Latin teacher greeted me as I tried to get in the classroom without him noticing.So much for that attempt. He’s crazy, and I bet he doesn’t know us by our real names, as he calls us by the Latin names we picked out at the beginning of the year (I choose Stella as it meant star, and Salve means hello, for those whose main language is not Nutcase/Latin). He has more screws loose than that of my brother’s first model car. And that thing is at the point of breaking. Hype soon followed, and he greeted her the same “Salve, Luna!” we both groaned “Salve, magister” and throwing ourselves in neighboring seats. As class began and the teacher whirred around the room in a office chair telling us about accusative and nominative nouns. He was going over how “Puella” becomes “Puellam” when I decided to take another nap. Good thing my Latin notebook is a suitable pillow. Though as always, another nap, another vision. Why does school have to make me so sleepy!? But as before, another nap, another dream.
Chapter 3
Screams heard in the Sky
In the dream, I was hiking along the local mountain trail with Meeka. Well, I was watching myself walk a mountain trail with Meeka. I was inching along the trail. You see, The mountain trail is a spiral naturally cut around the mountain, so It’s almost along the lines of rock climbing. If you look down, you see all the way down. I was sweating bullets even now, and I was dreaming!
“C’mon Lori! Were almost there!” Dream Meeka told Dream Me. Dream me inched forward a little more, and the cliff face crumbled beneath her. “LORELELLLLL!!!!” Meeka shouted, but it was too late. My Dream Self lay dead on the ground below. My breath caught in my throat. I couldn’t take it. My friends was one thing. Myself, that was a whole other world of self-torture. I pinched myself and snapped awake.
When I awoke, Hype was clicking a pen on my head. I looked at my Latin notebook, where this was written.
Contra metus paululum agendum.
How was I supposed to know what that means!? It’s not like I know Latin- wait. I do. I quickly translated the phrase, the result being ‘When facing your fears, you must work a little faster.’ Great, I had to translate Latin, and the divines that are controlling this don’t give me a straightforward answer!? There trying to give me grief. If things couldn’t get any more stressful, Hype slapped a set of Latin worksheets on my desk. Two actually, mine AND hers. Lazy bones. I had to just grit it out and started translating passages about boys in the forest being chased by wolves. Latin is an odd language. When the bell rang for us to leave, it sounded like a choir of angels.
The next morning, I felt like just staying in my room. But then Meeka would go to the zoo and get eaten by a puma. But if I did go, I would fall off the cliff and die! A girl shouldn’t have to need to make these decisions. I thought about the riddle. When facing your fears, work a little faster. Then I thought back to the dream. What was I doing? Sweating bullets, inching along the trail…..did anyone else hear the metaphorical light bulb go off? I sure did!
I was about to celebrate my discovery when Meeka literally kicked my door of its hinges. (At the time off this writing, it still hasn’t been fixed, and she still hasn’t paid a dime for it.) She dragged me out of my bed. She was going to take me mountain climbing in my pajamas if I hadn’t shouted at her “CAN I AT LEAST GET DRESSED!?” even then, she shoved me in my room and told me to hurry up. I honestly can’t catch a break for the life of me. Honestly.
After procrastinating for as long as I possibly could I finally dragged myself out of my room to meet Meeka once more, giddy with happiness. “Alright, let’s go……….” I muttered. As soon as the words left my mouth I was thrown in Meeka’s car and was on the road to the mountain.
It was a beautiful day, blue sky, not a cloud in sight, but I couldn’t enjoy it. I was at least 100 feet up in the air on a gigantic yet unsteady rock face. I took a deep breath and repeated the plan over and over again in my head. Don’t look down and keep moving quickly. Don’t look down and keep moving quickly. Don’t look down and keep moving quickly……
Once I heard the trigger phrase “C’mon Lori were almost there!” I went from a brisk walk to a dead run, my feet barely touching the ground. Sure enough, the cliff face fell, but this time I was safely on the other side. Meeka stared at where the heap of rock once was in awe. “What….how…..WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?” She exclaimed. I shrugged my shoulders. “At least we're safe now.” I said. Meeka looked over at me. “One question though….” She begun. “Yeah what is it?” I asked.
“How are we getting off this mountain…...?”
Chapter 4
Mountain Mayhem
My body locked itself in place. We had no way to get down. No means of communication. We were stuck on a mountaintop at a dizzying altitude with little food and water. Unless some distress squad was happened to fly on by, Meeka and I were as good as dead. How come I never forsaw this? Another question, why did I feel so guilty for it? It wasn't my fault the path gave way, was it?
"HELP! HELP PLEASE!" Meeka was wasting her breath by shouting into the wilderness. At least she had a glimmer of hope that she was going to survive. I could see panic flushed over in her brown eyes, her body shivering in fear under all the hiking gear. Her false hope seemed to be just that- False.
I searched through my backpack, praying that the sketchbook and pencil I wanted to use to sketch wildlife made it's way into my gear. A choir of angels rang in my eardrums as my fingers swept over it. I snatched up the book and pencil, and scribbled down words of distress before folding the paper into a airplane and threw it off the mountain, in the slightest of hope that someone would come across it fast.
Whether it was from lack of oxygen at this altitude, the sheer feeling of panic, or a mixture of the two, I began to feel light-headed as my field of sight zoomed in and out of focus. I feel to my knees, a feeling of dizziness overcoming me. "Meeka, be safe." were the final words that left my mouth as my world faded into darkness.
"Seeing Eye.......seeing eye..... someone with the power to forsee death...why would you entrust such a burden on a small child?"
"Silence, Arthur! She won't know a thing until she has matured enough...."
"But Professor-"
"ARTHUR! "
"Yes sir......"
"Take Seeing Eye and the other children and take them to their bedchambers!"
"Of course.....sir...."
Two completely unfamiliar voices argued and bickered within my mind. Seeing Eye, like my newspaper alias? The powers the voices were talking about sounded like mine. Was this a faint memory of my past? Then, who were the others? Were was this going on? When did this happen? Questions swirled my mind, my mental voice echoing, but I didn't see a thing.
"Seeing Eye. ......, Seeing Eye...... awaken....... seeing eye...."
My eyes snapped open as the sound of helicopter blades whirred above my head. Where was I?
"Lori!! Oh my god I thought you were dead!!" Meeka exclaimed, wrapping her arms around me in a hug. She must have been waiting for me to get up.
"Where.....am I?" I managed to whisper. My head was still spinning, so
I wasn't that suitable for conversation at the moment.
"On a rescue copter. My shouting worked! It caught a hikers attention, and he proceeded to get help! Ain’t that great?" Meeka said with a big smile.
"Yeah.....great......" I muttered, feeling light-headed once more. My eyes fluttered slightly before closing again, leaving myself falling into another slumber.
The first thing I saw when I gained vision, was a gun at my head. Was this another one of those dreams? I certainly hoped it was.
"We finally got you, Seeing Eye. The others too. Bet you didn't forsee this...." The voice of my pursurer was oddly familiar. Like the one ordering around 'Arthur' in my last dream. I couldn't see his face though. The only thing I could make out in my blurry line of sight was black eyes, soulless, like the devil's. The following moment, the sound of a pulled trigger.
I jolted awake, my heart racing. It was just a dream, thank goodness. I was on a mat in the police station, the sheriff on the phone with someone. The person on the other line seemed to be freaking out, as the sheriff kept telling them to calm down. As I glanced around the concrete walled room, I saw a manilla folder with this label
Mindblip - Survivors
There was a huge 'TOP SECRET' stamp over it, which piqued my interest. Meeka seemed to be staring at it as well. There was something different about her appearance, however. On her left hand, in what looked like purple marker, a capital N. It made me glance over to my own hand. Oddly enough, on my own hand, was a capital M. The mark seemed have an eerie glow, giving me chills. How long did I have this? I never noticed it before.
The sheriff put the phone down before walking over to Meeka and I. "Miss Quimby and Miss Kasemasa, your parents are coning to picj you up shortly" He said, voice firm and almost a bit intimidating. We both responded with a curt nod before the phone rang again. The sheriff rushed to answer it. I sighed and relaxed on the couch.
"Lorrell...."
Meeka whispered my name. I slowly turned my head to face her, to meet her worried face.
She sighed "I have a feeling that things aren't going to be the same after this...."
I had to agree with her. Things are going to go very differently from here on out. You don't have tl see the future to figure that out.
Yay! Awesome chapter! Very Happy
What's with the glowing purple letters though? :suspect: You'd think Lorrell and Meeka would be a little more questionable about them......
Chapter 5
The New Kid
That evening, when my mother finally decided to pick me up, I was bombarded with questions.
"What exactly happened? " Asked my mother over and over again. I would explain, over and over again, hoping it would get through her thick skull that it was just coincidence this happened, and that I was fine now.
"This is why you shouldn't perform dangerous activities!" My father would proclaim.
Why yes, because hiking is a life-threatening activity ALL the time. Now, my parents had a right to be concerned, their only daughter had almost lost her life because of a crumbling cliff face, and yes, on that damn mountain, hiking IS a life-threatening activity. Stupid nature and its mind-boggling creations trying to kill me. I'm starting to get the feeling that everything is trying to kill me or my friends recently. Maybe its because I'm seeing it ahead of time. That's probably it.
After my interrogation - I mean dinner, I laid on my bed and looked at my hand. The 'M' glowed with a eerie purple aura, just as before. I traced it with the index finger of my other hand. It had its own temperature, a sort of soothing heat. It was odd, though, and I didn't know where it came from or when it showed up. I sighed hopelessly as both my arms fell on my soft mattress as I watched my ceiling fan whir around. I lazily reached for my Samsung tablet (Yes, a heroine without a phone or apple product, amazing!) and popped my headphones in. Thus begun my playlist of anime music, from lively tunes to more mellow ones. I let myself tune out, my mind floating in the world of anime.
I guess I'm kinda like an anime character now, huh? A super-powered heroine thrown in compromising situations. All I needed was weird colored hair and I'm a protagonist. I danced the idea of being in my own anime and finally drifted to sleep.
"Pettan, Pettan, Tsurupettan. Pettan, Pettan Tsurupettan"
I woke up to hear that addictive song ringing in my ears. Left the ear buds in to long , I think. Why that song too? The English lyrics are so disturbing. How could such an upbeat song have lyrics like that? I call false advertising. Never mind my ranting, however.
With the god-awful but addictive song stuck in my head I went through my morning routine (Which I won't explain, because who really needs to know what I do in the morning? Sheeessh, stalkers) and went on my way to school. I saw the bus whirr by my house, but all that is to me is a notification saying 'Lorrell get your butt out the door!' as I walk to school. Yes, exercise. Beautiful thing, isn't it? I hopped out the door and started my way down the sidewalk, when someone tapped my shoulder.
I turned around to see a boy about my age, his most notable feature being that he had heterochromia, one eye was blue, the other was green. Made him look like he was a character from a fantasy show or something along the lines of that.
I didn't say a word to him, I was so entranced in his eyes. They held worlds, no, universes of their own, like they gazed into enterity. His voice snapped me out of my little hypnosis.
"Are you even alive?" He asked, apparently a bit annoyed by my lack of a response.
"Er, uh, yes, yes I am!" I said, standing up straight, perhaps out of habit from my teachers snapping at me like that. "How can I help you?"
"I was wondering if you knew where the middle school was around here as I just transfered......but as I can assume you're not very bright so that answer is probably a no..." He sighed, giving me a disapproving look. Those eyes burn into your soul, eating it away.
"Hey!" I retorted back, feeling a bit offended. "I happen to be very intelligent, AND know the way to the school. Just follow me" After that, I turned back around and continued on my way, not exactly caring if the myself if the transfer student felt like following, nor did I bother to check. It wasn't until I got to school did I notice that he did indeed follow me. He just passed by me, muttering "Don't be so hot-headed." and walking in the building.
What a polite fellow, not.
He had something off about him, a different aura, if that's a proper term. He seemed a little shady, I guess. I brushed it off and contiuned my way to class.
"Did you know that there's going to be a cute new guy in our class?" Meeka had obviously gotten over the events prior to today was back to her normal self. That's good, I guess.
"I think he called me an idiot earlier" I just said all calm, like it was no big deal. Apparently it was a big deal, but not in the way you'd excpect.
"HE TALKED TO YOU??" Meeka was squealing. I think the new kid has a fangirl. Her thin black hair bounced up and down as she jumped in delight. Once she stopped acting like she was on a trampoline, my friend bombarded me with questions.
"Is he cute? What does he look like? How does he act? Is he a celebrity? Does he have any scars?"
I grab my friend's shoulders and looked her in the eyes. But there was something different about her appearance. Her eyes, once bright green and full of life, were now purple, no, periwinkle. At that moment, however, that was the least of my concerns. I stared into her soul, saying a few set of words.
"Find out yourself"
Meeka was about to pounce on me again and beg for answers when the bell for homeroom rang. Saved by the bell, as they do say. I flopped into my seat, until I felt a tap on my shoulder again. I turned around, and new kid started at me with his heterochromiatic eyes, and a weird smile. What he said was short, but left me bewildered.
"At last we meet, Seeing Eye"
