Chapter 5 - The Maiden of the Roses

"Irenea... What do you mean? There is no fifth stratum! As no explorer, let alone an entire guild has managed to get past the eighth floor!" Dren exclaimed after a slight moment of silence in their area. "Irenea... Irenea!"

"Dren... As much as the Senator likes keeping the public in the dark about the deeper stratums, it can't stay like that with people possibly..." Irenea started to say before stopping herself. Her head slightly turned away from both the Doctor and Dren, to the extent that she wasn't looking straight at them. "Beside... My keeping it a secret isn't the problem now."

"This Senator..." The Doctor started to say at that point, her hand flicking the sonic screwdriver forward and back. While she was thinking aloud. "How long has this "Senator" been in office? As its odd that your Senator hasn't come forward to try and calm all these people about this. It begs the question of why there has been no announcement..."

"Well... Senator Flowdia is the one many in charge... But according to her assistant Lilio, she and Kujura have been out of town on government business..." Irenea started to say at that point as something seemed to click in her mind. "And that was about thirteen years ago!"

"Ah ha!" The Doctor exclaimed with a moment of joy, as she walked over and patted Irenea on the back. "Clearly this Lilio person has to be working with "The Maiden" and has control of the Vasha Narada! And with a place in the government system around here, Lilio could pretty much control all actions taken for this very situation and even delay them!"

"So... What are we suppose to do then?!" Dren snapped once again, as his arms crossed right in front of him. "You expected us to go all the way down to this "fifth" stratum, fight our way past monsters, dodge the Senatus's warriors, and stop some world destroying threat with what!? A book, a medical kit, and your screwdriver!?"

"Yes indeed, Dren my boy!" The Doctor said as she turned and briskly started running down the street. "Now come on!"

Irenea smiled slightly as she started running after the Doctor, while Dren muttered something under his breath before running after the both of them. The two of them slowly catching up to the Doctor after a matter of minutes. "That's your plan, Doctor! That's your plan! Oh, Kumitan! We are all going to die!" Dren exclaimed between breaths as he counted in his mind he was following a mad woman and a Zodiac that had managed to get past the Senator's grip on exploring. "Yup, we are going to die!"

"Oh, Dren my boy. What a pessimist you are!" The Doctor exclaimed while they were running down the street then with her taking a sharp turn around a corner. "Once we make it through this, we are going to have to change that point of view with you! Now, Irenea, where is this way down into these stratums?"

"You see the pink light going into the sky?" Irenea managed to say after a few breaths of air. "That is where the way down into the first stratum is."

"And how many floors is each stratum?" The Doctor questioned once again. "Please don't tell me its twenty floors down! As if it is we are going to be very late to stop this whole thing."

"Try about twenty to twenty-five floors down..." Irenea slowly muttered at that point as the Doctor skidded to a stop at the mention of twenty-five.

"Twenty-five! Twenty-five floors down!" The Doctor shouted in disbelief. "Twenty-five floors! There has to be a teleport to get down there, as if we have to climb down there it will take ages!" She shouted as she started pacing once again. "Come on, come on! There is something I'm missing! Something staring me right in the face... But what!"

"Doctor... You really don't know a lot about this place do you...?" Irenea slowly asked as they had come to a stop. Her hands firmly gripped on her book while her eyes were on the pink light going into the sky instead of the Doctor.

"Of course I don't know a lot about this place! And I hate not knowing!" The Doctor exclaimed as she turned to look at Irenea and Dren. "If we could have taken a stop by the library, then I'd know everything about this place! Though with all this going on, that has been the last thing on my mind."

"Ugh...!" Dren muttered with great disgust for the matter. "Now I could four hopeless situations!"

"Dren... Could you just lighten up!" The Doctor muttered at that point. "Humans! You can only see the negative in everything! Besides you are not helping as we need to get down twenty-five floors and we are currently stuck up here."

"Doctor. You know that pink light I mentioned..." Irenea slowly started to say once more.

"Yeah, and what about it?" The Doctor said turning her attention to Irenea, though seeing her annoyed tone with Dren had stayed in her voice. "Sorry. Though what about it?"

"The pink light is from a Geomagnetic Pole." Irenea stated off once again, a little fazed from the Doctor's annoyed tone. Though she slowly managed to shake it off. "The Geomagnetic Poles happened to be an old and ancient technology around here, usually helping people and explorers get back to town. But Doctor they also have another function..."

"Yes, yes. So?" The Doctor said as she looked right at Irenea. "Unless this Geomagnetic Pole also happens to be a teleport to the stratum we need then it might be useful... But... Wait..." She slowly started to say as she looked back at the pink light shooting upwards into the azure sky. "Oh... No... No... It can't be... But it is! It is a teleport! Oh, Irenea! You are a genius!" The Doctor shouted as she started running towards the pink light once more. "Dren kiss Irenea!"

"But why!?" Dren shouted at that point. "Why Doctor!?"

"Because I'm busy!" Came the shout from around the corner, the same corner the Doctor had rounded only moments earlier. Irenea looked away, as a slight blush entered her cheeks once more. Dren looked away as well, though briskly afterwards he sprinted after the Doctor. In a matter of seconds Irenea had sprinted after the two of them as well. It wasn't long as the two rounded the corner to see the Doctor up close, though not touching, the Geomagnetic Pole itself. She was pointing the sonic screwdriver at it, along with moving it around to scan the entire pole or that she could reach.

"Well, Doctor?" Dren muttered at that point, once he and Irenea were within earshot of the Doctor. "What's got you so worked up over this? It's been here for ages."

"This is amazing though quite different for around here..." The Doctor muttered as she took a good long look at the sonic screwdriver at that point. "This technology is quite advanced, almost too advanced. While it sticks out like a green thumb compared to everything else around here. You lot have fire yes, but if I had to go off this reading I'd say this planet had electronics and computers. Ah! No wonder the TARDIS got pulled off course! It was picking up this signal! Though this signal in combination of being thrown into the Medusa Cascade, no wonder we crash landed! A signal that past through dimensional barriers... Now this all make sense!"

"Doctor, as fascinating as the story of how you got here is... It's not helping!" Dren shouted at that point. "Now can we get back to the matter at hand!"

"Alright, alright! No need to be so prickly!" The Doctor shouted once more before turning her attention back to the Geomagnetic Pole. "Now we just need to activate this thing so we can get down to the correct stratum..." The Doctor said once more point the sonic screwdriver at the pole while it emitted a buzzing noise once again. She slowly extended it above her head as the Pole started to react to it. "Yes! Just a few more seconds!" She said rather pleased as a gun shot rang out from behind them and the pole slowly started to return to normal. The Doctor slowly lower her hand to see that the sonic screwdriver had been blown to pieces except for the forth she had in her hand. "My sonic screwdriver!"

"Doctor! I think that's the least of our problems!" Dren shouted as he had turned in the direction of the shot itself. His brown eyes not liking what they saw. Seeing the smoke rise from the barrel of a gun in the hands of a guard in all black armor, the gun slowly started to lower as many other guards rushed into the clearing and briskly started to surround Irenea, Dren, and the Doctor.

"Doctor!" Irenea shouted for once, seeming the break the Doctor's thoughts on her sonic screwdriver and bring her attention to the guards surrounding them.

"Well, I wasn't expecting this..." The Doctor slowly said once the guards had fully surrounded them.

"Under orders of Senator Lilio, you are to be taken to the Via Senatus!" One of the guard shouted walking up to the group. By his black armor it was hard to tell if he was another guard or the head guard, though clearly he was special with the slight golden lines given to his armor.

"And what are we charged with!?" The Doctor briskly challenged at that point.

"You all are charged with contempt to over throw the Senatus along with multiple acts of holding information from the Senatus." The guard shouted once more as he stepped closer to them. "You will be taken to the Senatus to be give punishment for your crimes!"

"Well, not exactly where I wanted to go but it's still good. Oh! I don't get to say this often, but take me to your leader." The Doctor said almost happy with the hole turn of events. It was at that point, along with the points of a few swords that the group of guards started to push them away from the Geomagnetic Pole.

"Doctor, I thought we wanted to get to the fifth stratum!" Dren argued as he walked along with them, not one bit glad about the swords being pointed at him. "How is this still good!?"

"Because, now we can get answers from the Senatus." The Doctor said easily as she walked along with them. "Anyways she has to be working with the Maiden, so Lilio has probably sent out this arrest squad to get us and bring us to him or her."

"And what is she, he, it going to do to us?" Dren questioned, while his brown eyes kept looking back at the sword behind him. "And don't you have a gun, lazer, or something to get our way out of here?"

"Oh, they'll probably want to see how much we know about the situation and then probably kill us." The Doctor easily replied. "Anyways I don't do weapons. Anyways why are you asking me? Irenea here could put up a light show, but that isn't what we need right now."

"Great... I'm stuck with a mad crazy insane woman who doesn't like to use weapons!" Dren muttered in anger at that point. "What else could go wrong!?"

"Dren... We've reached the Senatus..." Irenea slowly said as with her free hand pointed to the large building ahead of them. This building made of cream white stone stood in front of them with the light slowly reflected through the glass windows.

"Come on! Inside the building!" One of the guards grunted as a sword poked once at each Dren, Irenea, and the Doctor. "In you go!"

"Okay, okay! No need to be pushy!" The Doctor shouted as she was the first one to walk inside, past the doors while Irenea and Dren quickly followed behind her. "Well... The architecture is pretty advanced too... This place is just turning into a mystery after another..."

"Doctor, why do you keep bringing that up?" Irenea slowly asked. "As the Senatus has always looked like this... For over a hundred years."

"It just shows how much the alien she is... Never seen a place like Armoroad..." Dren muttered with an edge of sarcasm to his tone.

"Oh, Dren, I've seen many places. Old Victoria London, advanced cities, even the end of the universe... But your town here... No your entire planet it's just baffling." The Doctor started to explain as they were being escorted throughout the corridors. "Your lighting is that of fires and candles, which would put you like Old Victoria ages. But your architecture is that of more modern cathedrals. Then that Geomagnetic Pole is that of an extremely advanced race. So its baffling, and something I'd like to get to the bottom to."

It was briefly after that, that they were escorted into a large room. This large circular room had many things in the way of sitting places though there wasn't a desk to be seen anywhere. Though on the opposite of the room there was a woman sitting in once of the chairs though her gaze quickly shot to the door once they entered. This woman somewhat smiled as she stood up, causing her long leaf green hair to roll down her back. She was wearing a gown of dark reds and purples that happened to fall all the way to the floor, so much that some of the fabric was folded and creased. Though her cherry pink eyes stayed on the Doctor for a moment before switching to Dren and finally landing on Irenea. "Leave us! I'd like to speak to the criminals alone." She demanded with a voice like gravel then causing her to cough which managed to lighten her voice. "Sorry. I'd like to speak to the criminals alone. Please wait outside." She said easily as the two guards at the door nodded as each once grabbed a door handle and pulled them shut leaving just the woman with the three of them.

"So, Senator Lilio I presume..." The Doctor started off with ease as she gently took a step forward.

"Very perceptive of you, though yes I am Senator Lilio." The woman replied with the same air of ease. "Anyways you three have been very naughty. Little Irenea Cresent Moon most of all. Several journeys to the deeper stratums and never a word to the Senatus? Naughty girl..."

"How about we skip the riot act and get straight to the point." The Doctor interrupted at that point. "As we know what your planning."

"Oh, so do you, Doctor?" The woman scoffed with a laugh as she walked straight up to the Doctor himself. "All I see are three people that have broken the rules of the Senatus."

"Well, there's your first mistake." The Doctor said easily with a slight smirk on her lips. "I never did tell you my name."

The woman scowled at him for a second before turning away in a huff, walking back towards the place she was sitting earlier. Though after a brief second did she turned around and face them once more. "Alright. So you've seen through me... But there is nothing you can do to stop us." She said as the gravel tones started to enter into her voice once more as a pair of eyes, red diamond eyes, peered out from the shadows on the right side of the room.

"Doctor... It's the same thing from my house..." Dren slowly said looking at the shadow which was now turning pitch black, though it came to a stop as the woman easily raised her left hand.

"So, your little guard dog then?" The Doctor questioned as she didn't even seem fazed by the shadow creature. "Or is it your hunter for bodies?"

"Cute, Doctor. You and your little theories." The woman replied as she sat down once more. "Its a shame you'll have to die."

"What did you do with Senator Flowdia and Kujura!?" Irenea shouted at this point, taking a step forward past the Doctor. "As I doubt they'd let a monster like you take over!"

"Oh, dear me Doctor. Looks like the girl's a step ahead of you." The woman scoffed as her eyes glistened as she had been watching her though Irenea had beaten her to the question. "Easy enough... I sent them on a ship... A one way ride to oblivion."

"Alright, so you took over as Senator, raising a possessed army of humans, and trying to resurrect the Maiden of the Roses for what aim? To take over the planet?" The Doctor questioned once again, this time taking the control back of the conversation.

"You are only partly right, Doctor. Though I'm not trying to resurrect the Maiden of the Roses." The woman said with a dark laugh that echoed through the room. "Besides I chose my name quiet well... Lilio... If you translate that name you get the word Rose."

"Your the Maiden of the Roses!?" Dren exclaimed almost shocked to find out. "But they always say the Maiden was a monster!"

"Oh, silly boy. Of course I am a monster though not in this borrowed form." The woman laughed once again. "Oh, how you silly creatures never know that danger is sitting right under your noses."

"Though that doesn't explain why your doing this! Why take over this planet with its own people?" The Doctor questioned once more, while Irenea had fallen silent. "You could find a new home. A home where no one would have to die and you could live in peace!"

"Living in peace was all I wanted... Back when I was human... Or human like. Though after I watch you humans kill off the Forest Folk! I watched you slaughter them all with a blade under orders of your government." The woman shouted in a dark rage as she slowly started towards the doors. "So... Now its my turn. I've turned enough people that this shall be easy. I'll give them the same order that your government gave you. Kill all humans." She said with a laugh as she knocked on the door and the door opened just enough for her to get through. "Now, there is nothing you can do to stop me. Lock the doors!"

"No no no no no!" The Doctor shouted as she sprinted for the door, only to her the click of the lock once she had gotten there. "Oh this is great... This is just great...! We know what she's planning to do but we are stuck inside a locked room! Now I wish my screwdriver wasn't blow to bits!"

"Doctor... We need to get out of here..." Dren started to say as he was slowly backing away from the shadow, as it was now advancing into the room. "Like now!"

"As much as I'd like to make a key just magical appear Dren. I can't!" The Doctor snapped at that point. "Anyways what's so threatening in here any...ways..." She started to say as she turned around though stopped as her Ruby eyes fell on the shadow. "Ah, yes. The Vasha Narada beast... Though would be threatening enough."

"Doctor, we need a plan! We need a brilliant plan now!" Dren shouted as all of them started to back up towards the left side of the room while the shadow gave a low growl as a shadow mass of a claw came forward from the shadow itself. The shadow itself seemed to give a delighted growl once they all were trapped on the left side of the room, and its eyes never leaving its prey as it slowly creep closer to them.

"Four minutes fifty-two seconds..." The Doctor said easily and with a smirk on her face.

"What do you mean by that? And do you even have a plan, you mad woman!?" Dren shouted once more. "As your plans haven't really been paying off so far!"

"You two trust me?" The Doctor asked at that point. Her gaze shifted from Dren to Irenea, as she asked the question. "Do you two trust me?"

"Of course." Irenea softly said as she looked at the Doctor, while she still held her book close to her.

"Dren, do you trust me?" The Doctor asked once more as her gaze when to Dren this time. "As I have a plan, but in order for it to work I need you to trust me... Can you trust me for five minutes?"

Dren looked at the Doctor silently for a minute and then his gaze shifted to Irenea, who happened to be looking at him too. With a sigh and placing one of his hands on his flat brown hair did he slowly give an answer. "Fine, I trust you..."

"Good. Now do exactly what I tell you to." The Doctor started to say as her gaze when back to the beastial shadow that was still approaching them. "No ifs ands or buts about it."

"Though, Doctor, what is this plan of yours?" Irenea asked as her gaze had shot to the shadow too.

"Oh, you'll see. You will see." The Doctor gave the simple reply. Then right at the same moment the shadow lunged itself at them, its red eyes glaring at them. With its shadow claws stretch forth ready to rip the three of them to pieces as soon as it could. "You will see."
